Staff Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Physician to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals - Correctional Health Services. As a Staff Physician, you will be responsible for providing primary care to patients in jail-based clinics, performing intake evaluations, and providing emergency care with the support of Emergency Medicine physicians.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive histories and physicals on new admissions, including completion of master problem lists, lab, and EKG contraindication forms, and medication lists as applicable.
- Perform S.O.A.P. notes on patients requesting sick call, schedule follow-ups, and update medication orders, while updating any deficiencies on the master problem list.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, evaluating the need for consult services and submitting prioritized consults when indicated.
- Review on-island and off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns, ensuring that the standard of care is met and implementing recommendations from consultants.
- Respond to emergencies and fire drills in a timely and professional manner.
- Be familiar with performance indicators and take appropriate measures to comply with these standards.
- Perform chart reviews and summaries on transfers, updating master problem lists, rewriting medication orders, and resubmitting consults as needed.
- Request radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated and interpret results in conjunction with patient clinical status.
- Notify Urgicare for 3-hour/EMS runs.
- Complete and submit all encounter forms daily.
- Witness, sign, and document patient healthcare refusals.
- Generate medical modifications as needed.
- Maintain clinical competency by reviewing PHS protocols, current medical literature, and C.M.E.s.
- Provide clinical supervision for P.A.s/N.P.s, including co-signing of notes and medication orders.
- Ensure standard of care is maintained.
- Adhere to policies and procedures of CHS and be familiar with them by reviewing as needed.
- Attend all mandatory in-services.
- Comply with and maintain Employee Health requirements.
- Medical doctor with 3-5 years of directly related experience, which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty.
- Registered to practice medicine in the State of New York and have Federal DEA, BCLS or ACLS, and Infection Control Certification, Medical Specialty License or Certification preferred.
- Board Certified in Specified Area of Medical Specialty.
- Board Eligibility (must be Board Certified within five years of completion of Post-graduate Training. If hired before 5 years of completion is up, will be terminated if not Board Certified by the 5th year).
