About the Role

Cumulus Media, a leading audio-first media company, is seeking a highly skilled IT Broadcast Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our broadcast equipment, telecommunications systems, and computer networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance procedures and schedules for all broadcast equipment, including studio equipment, transmitting equipment, and ancillary equipment.
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve technical anomalies as they occur, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Installation and Maintenance: Oversee and assist with the installation and maintenance of control consoles, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, satellite encoders and receivers, control systems, IT and networking systems, remote equipment, and other related systems.
  • Computer Network Support: Assist with maintenance and support of computer networks and related systems, ensuring seamless integration with broadcast equipment.
  • Facility Support: Troubleshoot and maintain facility HVAC and UPS systems, ensuring a stable and efficient working environment.
  • Redundancy and Failover: Ensure reliable delivery of programming through proactive engineering, implementing redundancy and proper failover procedures where necessary.
  • Technical Support: Respond to technical support requests from facility stakeholders, providing timely and effective solutions.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with Cumulus Radio Station engineering teams, sharing knowledge and expertise to drive innovation and excellence.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Regularly report department status to management via email and establish, update, and implement department procedural documentation.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in 24/7 on-call engineer rotation, providing remote access capability and responding to technical issues outside of regular working hours.
Requirements
  • Experience: 2+ years in radio station or network engineering, with a strong understanding of broadcast equipment, telecommunications systems, and computer networks.
  • Education: Graduation from a two-year degree program with a technical emphasis or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: SBE or Engineering certification highly preferred.
  • Skills: Exposure to troubleshooting and repairing AM and FM transmitting facilities, radio control rooms, transmitter sites, HVAC, and other building support areas. Adequate hearing and vision commensurate with job functions required.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with or the desire to learn applicable software packages, including Microsoft OS and Office Suite, OpX automation, and other related systems.
  • Availability: Regular and consistent attendance required, with weekend, overnight, and holiday shifts. On-call status requiring availability via cell phone and physical access to the network within one hour.
  • Physical Demands: Occasional outside maintenance activities in all weather, with the ability to lift 50lbs.
