Job Title: Major Gifts Officer/Senior Major Gifts Officer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Major Gifts Officer/Senior Major Gifts Officer to join our team at Wharton. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts from individuals and organizations in support of Wharton's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts strategy to strengthen Wharton's donor base in a given geographical region.
  • Maintain a top-tier list of 200 prospects and donors, with a deep understanding of prospect and volunteer management.
  • Establish and meet mutually agreed-upon annual goals for moving donors through the development cycle, including visits, dollars solicited, and dollars raised.
  • Coordinate and staff regional cultivation and stewardship events as needed.
  • Identify new prospective major gifts donors and develop long-range plans for their involvement with Wharton.
  • Serve as an External Affairs liaison for Wharton research centers or programs, interfacing with managing directors on a regular basis for program support and maintaining pipelines for fundraising and volunteer leadership.
  • Ensure that pertinent information and contacts for assigned prospects are properly recorded in the institutional database.
  • Collaborate with other fundraisers in the department and across the university in the overall relationship building of alumni with Wharton.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years (5 to 7 years for Senior Major Gifts Officer) of progressively responsible experience in institutional development with an emphasis on major gifts from individuals and organizations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to function with a high degree of independence with assigned groups of prospects, yet interact collaboratively with colleagues in a centralized framework of fundraising, participating in and contributing to the total team effort.
  • Experience interacting comfortably with faculty and CEO-level contacts.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Travel, some evening/weekend work, and a valid driver's license are required.
  • Entrepreneurial inclination and capacity for hard work within an intensely goal-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with database manipulation and other computer software, preferably Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of university environment and academic mission preferred.
