The Residential Loan Consultant role is an evolving professional position. This role recognizes policies and applies specialized knowledge in overseeing and evaluating processes and data. It integrates established disciplinary knowledge within its specialty area while maintaining a fundamental understanding of related industry practices. A solid grasp of how the team collaborates with others to achieve the objectives of the area is essential. The role develops a working knowledge of industry practices and standards and must communicate information clearly and logically while being mindful of audience diversity. The impact of this position is primarily limited to the immediate team.

Role Description:

The Residential Loan Consultant represents the Retail Mortgage division, delivering exceptional service to clients and referral partners while being responsible for originating high-quality residential real estate loans. This highly interactive position collaborates internally with retail branch partners, operations, and community business development officers. The role is pivotal in driving mortgage sales and fostering client relationships through engagement with clients, real estate agents, and other referral sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients to discuss their financial circumstances, personal objectives, and lending requirements to assist them in achieving their home ownership aspirations.
  • Gather and evaluate information regarding the client's financial status, goals, risk tolerance, future plans, income, assets, liabilities, cash flow, and credit history.
  • Assess financial data to determine initial eligibility for specific lending solutions.
  • Provide recommendations to clients on lending solutions that align with their financial and personal goals.
  • Inform clients about the implications, risks, and advantages of various lending options.
  • Promote Citi's brand and position Citi as a leading provider of lending and financial solutions, including outreach to real estate agencies, builders, and other referral sources.
  • Conduct client meetings outside of Citi's offices, adapting to clientele, market conditions, and other relevant factors.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to support and enhance customer relationships.
  • Direct clients seeking financial services beyond lending to the appropriate Citi professionals.
  • Work alongside Operations teams to ensure a smooth transition of loan applications, providing necessary documentation to Processors and acquiring additional information as needed.
  • Coordinate with Processors/Closers and clients to ensure timely loan closings.
  • Engage with key referral relationships (Realtors, CPAs, Builders, etc.) to drive mortgage business.
  • Introduce clients to segment partners when appropriate, including but not limited to Banking, Wealth Management, Small Business, and Cards.
  • Stay informed about local market trends and changes in industry regulations, expanding both internal and external networks to better serve clients and industry professionals.
  • Evaluate risks in business decisions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, while upholding the firm's reputation and safeguarding its assets.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of prior mortgage sales experience required.
  • Experience in Residential Mortgage is essential.
  • Established book of business is preferred.
  • Proven capability in product sales is required.
  • FHA/VA and conventional loan experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to understand and explain financial calculations and pricing options.
  • Strong communication skills to guide clients on necessary documentation for loan applications.
  • Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations, including fair lending, privacy, and RESPA.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Strong relationship development and management abilities.
  • Expertise in general lending products and the overall mortgage industry.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.

This position requires registration as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, including fingerprinting unless fingerprints are already on file. The role also necessitates maintaining and renewing this registration annually and providing a unique identifier to consumers as required by applicable regulations and company policies.
