Position Overview

The Associated Press is seeking a dedicated Technical Support Specialist to enhance our innovative Technology team. This role is crucial in providing essential assistance to AP users, external partners, and operational systems within our Washington, DC office.

The position operates Monday through Friday, with the possibility of extended hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, particularly during special events. Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little notice.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver expert assistance for office systems, technical equipment, networks, UPS systems, generators, fire prevention systems, security, and HVAC operations. Collaborate with technical teams to ensure the functionality of satellite offices. Engage in proactive system health assessments and maintenance. Conduct testing of software and updates prior to deployment. Participate in global initiatives and special projects. Manage mobile device orders and upgrades. Provide support for integrated broadcast and IT technologies, including AV technology in conference facilities. Develop comprehensive documentation and conduct user training. Record all tasks performed using a centralized ticketing system.

Required Qualifications:

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with a proactive approach and experience in a broadcast or media production setting. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Capable of hybrid working arrangements in a global team environment. Strong prioritization and time management capabilities. Ability to perform effectively under pressure. Team-oriented with a willingness to share ideas during discussions. Professional demeanor. Proven experience in the following areas is essential: Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, high-level interpersonal and communication skills, cloud technologies (especially AWS), familiarity with system management tools (such as Azure, Intune, Jamf, Active Directory), IP networking, Windows OS, Mac OSX, Linux, hardware support, and knowledge of metadata workflows (including databases, JSON, XML). International travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 2 years of experience in a media organization. A college degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience is necessary.

Compensation & Benefits: The expected total compensation for this role ranges from $68,000 to $75,000, depending on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance, and paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
