Position Overview:

The Chief Academic Officer is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards of educational excellence while supporting faculty and staff in achieving optimal educational outcomes. This role involves the development of academic policies and programs, coordination of departmental activities, and providing guidance to key institutional personnel. As the principal academic leader, the Chief Academic Officer advises the School Director and other senior educational leaders on matters related to student retention and academic performance. Additionally, this position acts as the primary liaison with accreditation and licensing bodies. In the absence of the School Director, the Chief Academic Officer may assume the role of chief administrative officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures clarity of responsibilities and duties among faculty and staff.
  • Oversees the timely completion of daily, weekly, and term-related activities.
  • Delegates projects and responsibilities to appropriate team members and monitors their progress.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and provides necessary data for compliance reporting.
  • Maintains accurate records in accordance with institutional regulations.
  • Facilitates the submission of self-study reports and program approvals to relevant accrediting agencies.
  • Supports accreditation readiness and manages accreditation visits.
  • Organizes and documents advisory board meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development seminars.
  • Conducts evaluations of instructional staff through classroom observations at least biannually.
  • Analyzes course evaluation feedback and collaborates with faculty to discuss outcomes.
  • Addresses student behavioral issues promptly to foster a positive academic environment.
  • Provides counseling to students exhibiting negative behaviors and refers them to support services as necessary.
  • Supervises student clinicals, externships, and internships, ensuring successful completion.
  • Encourages faculty participation in educational activities such as guest lectures and curriculum updates.
  • Ensures that course outlines, syllabi, and lesson plans are current and comprehensive.
  • Assists students with personal and academic concerns, providing guidance and support.
  • Reviews academic progress reports and advises students not meeting satisfactory standards.
  • Proactively engages in student retention initiatives.
  • Administers transfer policies and evaluates course equivalencies from other institutions.
  • Drives continuous improvement in educational programs and oversees the development of new curricula.
  • Participates in faculty recruitment and orientation processes.
  • Implements improvement plans for faculty performance as needed.
  • Conducts initial training for new faculty members.
  • Monitors faculty professional development activities.
  • Reviews academic policies during new student orientations.
  • Develops and enforces academic policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the Institutional Effectiveness Plan's development and updates.
  • Facilitates the timely implementation of new programs and curriculum revisions.
  • Engages in activities related to the admissions process, providing relevant information to the admissions team.
  • Establishes local partnerships and articulation agreements.
  • Represents the institution in external committees and collaborations with local organizations.
  • Adheres to institutional policies and procedures as outlined in relevant handbooks.
  • Participates in graduation and orientation events.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Maintains consistent and reliable attendance.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven expertise in managing academic operations and personnel.
  • Experience in hiring, training, and supervising academic staff.
  • Strong verbal, written, and technological skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and student management systems.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in educational management is required.
  • Prior teaching experience and a strong background in curriculum development and faculty evaluation.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree in Education or a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications and licenses may be required based on regulatory standards.
