Title: Technical Advisor, Climate Solutions

Department: Environment and Energy (E2) Group

Reporting To: Associate Vice President, Environment and Energy (E2)

The Environment & Energy (E2) Group encompasses three specialized units: Ecosystem Services, Clean Energy and Circular Economy, and Forestry and Natural Resource Management. This group collaborates extensively with other divisions within Winrock, such as Agriculture, Resilience and Water, and Human Rights, Education & Empowerment, to devise and implement innovative, nature-based solutions.

As a key member of the E2 management team, the Technical Advisor will exemplify leadership, nurturing a collaborative environment that promotes growth, respect, equity, and intellectual leadership.

Environment & Energy Group Mission

The E2 Group utilizes scientifically-backed, evidence-based strategies to tackle the diverse ways in which humans interact with natural resources. Key Responsibilities

Leadership, Strategy, and Impact:

  • Strategically enhance the Group's portfolio to increase impact, scale, and outreach.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and positioning of the E2 Group.
  • Collaborate with the E2 team to identify, document, and disseminate technical best practices and methodologies for new business initiatives.
  • Elevate the Group's technical visibility among stakeholders, practitioners, and donors, fostering partnerships through thought leadership activities.
  • Assist in developing core technical materials for the Group.
  • Provide insights on emerging trends and issues within the climate and environmental sectors.

Proactive Business Development:

  • Support and expand E2's new business initiatives by identifying opportunities and leading proposal efforts.
  • Leverage professional networks to maintain relationships with current and potential donors.
  • Represent Winrock at national and international events, positioning the organization for expanded opportunities.
  • Identify and enhance existing technical project tools and methodologies.
  • Champion Winrock's Core Values of accountability, equity, innovation, integrity, and transformation.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in international development, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field; a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) is preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in climate change adaptation, mitigation, or resilience.
  • 10 years of management experience with USAID projects is required.
  • Experience managing large, complex USAID natural resource management projects is preferred.
  • Strong skills in strategy development, partnership building, and project management.
  • Proven track record in securing and designing USAID projects.
  • International experience related to climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainability is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in climate change programming and capacity development.
  • Experience in public communication on technical issues is preferred.
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills are required.
  • Additional language proficiency is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Willingness to travel internationally is required.
