Job Overview

Position Title: Technical Advisor, Climate Solutions

Location: Flexible within the U.S.

Department: Environment and Energy (E2) Group

Reports To: Associate Vice President, Environment and Energy (E2)

The Environment & Energy (E2) Group encompasses three key areas: Ecosystem Services, Clean Energy and Circular Economy, and Forestry and Natural Resource Management. This group collaborates with various Winrock divisions, such as Agriculture, Resilience and Water, and Human Rights, Education & Empowerment, to implement innovative, nature-based solutions.

As a pivotal member of the E2 management team, the Technical Advisor will exemplify leadership, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment that values respect, equity, and innovative thinking.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership, Strategy, and Impact:

  • Enhance the Group's portfolio strategically, increasing impact and outreach.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and positioning of the E2 Group.
  • Collaborate with the E2 team to identify and promote best practices and methodologies for new business initiatives.
  • Elevate the Group's technical visibility among stakeholders and donors, engaging in thought leadership activities.
  • Develop essential technical materials for the Group.
  • Provide insights on emerging trends in the climate and environmental sectors.

Proactive Business Development:

  • Support the growth of E2 by identifying opportunities and leading proposal efforts.
  • Maintain relationships with current and prospective donors through regular engagement.
  • Represent Winrock at relevant external events to expand organizational presence.
  • Develop and enhance existing technical project tools for broader application.
  • Champion Winrock's Core Values, promoting accountability, equity, innovation, integrity, and transformation.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in international development, environmental science, or a related field; a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) is preferred.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Significant USAID management experience is required.
  • Experience managing large-scale USAID natural resource management projects is preferred.
  • Proven skills in strategy development, partnership building, and project management.
  • Established record of securing and designing USAID projects.
  • International experience related to climate change and natural resource management is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated innovation and leadership in climate programming and capacity development.
  • Experience in public communication on technical issues is preferred.
  • Fluency in English with excellent communication skills is required; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Willingness to travel internationally is required.
