Position Overview
The County of San Diego's Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk is seeking qualified candidates for the role of AUDIT-APPRAISER I. This position offers the potential for teleworking and/or flexible scheduling following an initial training phase.

As a certified appraiser, the Audit-Appraiser will implement accounting and auditing methodologies in accordance with the California Revenue and Taxation Code to identify, audit records, and assess both business and personal property.

This role represents the entry-level classification within the series. Under general supervision, incumbents will conduct audits for smaller enterprises adhering to established protocols.

The ideal candidate will possess robust leadership capabilities, along with comprehensive knowledge and skills in auditing business financial records to ascertain accurate valuations of taxable personal property and business assets.

Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in applying accounting and auditing practices, as well as the California Revenue and Taxation Code, in the identification, auditing, and assessment of both business and personal property.


Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution or an equivalent foreign degree in accounting, business administration (with a focus on accounting or finance), economics, or a closely related discipline, which includes coursework in elementary accounting, intermediate accounting, advanced accounting, cost accounting, and auditing.

Possession of a permanent Appraiser's Certificate from the State Board of Equalization is required within twelve (12) months from the appointment date and must be maintained throughout employment in this classification.


Additional Notes

Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA) by the California State Board of Accountancy is highly desirable and may be accepted as fulfilling the educational requirement.

Hiring Process

Medical Screening
Approximately three days following successful background investigation results.

Conditions of Employment

As part of the pre-employment process, candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning employment with the County. Additional background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.


Evaluation Process

Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information provided in the supplemental questionnaire. Ensure all information is complete and accurate, as responses will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system.
