POSITION SUMMARY:

The Direct Claims Associate Account Manager, under guidance, is responsible for overseeing, reviewing, and coordinating activities related to environmental, asbestos, and latent type claims, including the resolution of coverage disputes and the establishment of sufficient reserves.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate and investigate new loss notifications and claim submissions.
  • Collaborate with policy search teams to locate copies of relevant coverage documentation.
  • Promptly assess and categorize claims under applicable primary, umbrella, and excess coverage.
  • Facilitate the engagement of defense counsel with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and coordinate defense strategies with insured parties, legal counsel, and other involved insurance carriers.
  • Proactively manage the claims resolution process, participating in mediations as necessary within the limits of settlement authority.
  • Coordinate with the reinsurance department to notify new accounts, provide updates on existing accounts, and respond to specific inquiries from reinsurers.
  • Work alongside in-house legal and management teams to oversee declaratory judgment actions, including the formulation and execution of resolution strategies, settlement valuations, and obtaining necessary settlement authority.
  • Collaborate on setting appropriate reserve levels for claims.
  • Ensure timely processing of payments, verifying correct allocation across relevant policies.
  • Manage Allocated Loss Adjustment Expenses (ALAE) through strategic handling and billing review/payment processing in conjunction with the billing unit.
  • Accurately document claims in physical and/or digital formats according to established protocols.
  • Maintain and acquire adjuster licenses as required.
  • Travel as necessary for job functions.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CPCU are advantageous.
  • Independent Property and Casualty adjuster's license is a plus.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with NYCAL is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years in private practice focusing on asbestos or similar toxic tort litigation is required.
