POSITION OVERVIEW

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, is seeking a skilled Premium Auditor to enhance our team. This role is primarily focused on executing final premium audits both remotely and on-site as required along the Eastern seaboard. The Premium Auditor will play a vital role in fostering relationships with agents and policyholders, serving as the main point of contact for inquiries related to audit results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Examine documentation submitted through the customer portal.
  • Engage proactively with policyholders and agents to collect essential information, including intricate payroll forms.
  • Request and analyze any additional payroll or tax documents necessary for conducting the final audit.
  • Pose detailed inquiries to confirm classification codes and ascertain final payroll figures.
  • Identify issues and concerns; address straightforward matters with external stakeholders and promptly inform the Supervisor for further evaluation.
  • Conduct on-site inspections as assigned or as necessary.
  • Deliver a comprehensive summary of audit findings using company software, ensuring company-specific descriptions justify classification codes.
  • Create both standard and complex worksheets to validate final audited payroll.
  • Detect discrepancies compared to pre-audit classification codes and state regulations, providing thorough explanations.
  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders regarding unusual items and escalate to management for discussion as needed.
  • Independently resolve complex discrepancies within the designated authority level.
  • Act as the primary contact for agents and policyholders concerning inquiries about individual audit results.

Conduct research on relevant Bureau websites and call centers to prepare for meetings with policyholders and during on-site visits. Utilize Bureau manuals to verify classification codes and review payroll inclusions/exclusions. Submit inquiries to State Bureaus as appropriate and develop contacts within bureaus for ongoing research to classify risks more efficiently.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Perform a thorough review of policy details.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to ensure accurate application of classification codes and review applicable manual rules.
  • Resolve all discrepancies and escalate major concerns to Supervisor/Manager for review.
  • Process final audit and revised final audit transactions on policies.
  • Provide a detailed summary of audit development to justify AP/RP.
  • Prepare to address complex questions regarding audit development.
  • Identify and acknowledge dispute submissions, making necessary inquiries and requesting additional information to validate disputes.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders (Insured, Underwriting, Marketing, Producer) to resolve both standard and complex disputes.
  • Offer a general overview of the dispute resolution process when requested.
  • Respond to standard and complex inquiries regarding the Premium Audit process and standard Finance workflows.
  • Advise Underwriting, Loss Control, Claims, and other internal departments on Premium Audit-related rules and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other teams as directed to ensure an efficient policy lifecycle.

Become familiar with Company communication guidelines and standard operating procedures. Provide exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders by responding promptly to inquiries and assisting all business partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Finance, or Accounting from an accredited institution is required.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant premium audit experience is essential.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office/365 suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to navigate applicable databases, systems, and vendor software programs is required.
