Role/Department: Senior Auditor for CFO Services


This role is part of the Northern Trust CFO Audit Services team, focusing on critical areas such as credit and market risk, capital planning, regulatory frameworks, liquidity risk, and balance sheet forecasting.

The selected professional will lead audit project teams, ensuring effective oversight and clear communication of engagement results to management.

Additionally, this position requires leveraging technical skills, including data analytics, and providing mentorship to fellow auditors within the project team.

Collaboration with Audit Specialists and Managers is essential to define the audit scope, develop testing strategies, guide auditors to successful conclusions, and present findings to senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster strong working relationships and maintain open communication with key stakeholders, Audit Managers, and junior audit staff.
  • As the "Auditor-in-Charge," oversee audit progress and budget, addressing significant variances or delays with the Audit Manager.
  • Proactively enhance skills and knowledge across various audit areas while mentoring junior auditors through feedback and clarification.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry trends, contributing to ongoing monitoring and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Operational Duties:

  • Implement and utilize quantitative methods and data analysis tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, SAS, R) during audit engagements.
  • Conduct testing using both quantitative and qualitative analyses in accordance with approved scopes and methodologies.
  • Manage complex, high-risk audit engagements with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Apply a thorough analytical approach to identify risks, controls, and gaps in processes across business units.
  • Lead audit planning, ensuring the scope captures key risk areas and aligns with regulatory expectations.
  • Develop risks, controls, and corresponding test steps, reviewing those prepared by junior auditors.
  • Execute tests of design and operational effectiveness, employing advanced audit techniques to ensure data integrity.
  • Ensure all audit documentation, findings, and reports comply with Audit Services standards, being clear and concise.
  • Present initial findings to senior management for discussion and validation.
  • Assist in drafting formal audit reports and presentations for senior leadership.
  • Review junior auditors' work to ensure adherence to auditing standards and departmental expectations.
  • Support issue validation and assist junior staff as needed.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects as required, such as updating audit universes and conducting risk-based analyses.
Skills/Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of auditing experience within a financial institution or public auditing firm, with relevant expertise in credit and market risk, regulatory frameworks, and financial activities.
  • Proven experience in an Auditor-in-Charge role.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Solid business acumen and skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Adaptability to dynamic work environments.
  • A degree from a recognized college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with statistical and quantitative models.
  • A Master’s Degree or relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, PRM, CFA, CIA).
