Preconstruction and Estimating

POSITION SUMMARY

Walker & Company, Inc. is a reputable General Contractor and Construction Management firm dedicated to delivering exceptional Client service in the construction industry. We are seeking a skilled individual to become a vital member of our Preconstruction and Estimating Team, focusing on Commercial and Multi-family Construction Projects within the $10-$100 million cost range.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with clients, architects, and engineers to determine optimal service strategies.
  • Conduct initial site evaluations.
  • Develop preliminary budgets during the early design phases.
  • Provide updated budgets throughout the design process.
  • Assist in formulating construction schedules and key milestones.
  • Define and outline scopes of work.
  • Interpret and analyze plans and specifications.
  • Identify discrepancies in plans and potential scheduling issues.
  • Spot opportunities for value engineering.
  • Establish and maintain bid lists and foster relationships with local subcontractors.
  • Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors.
  • Negotiate terms with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Compile final bid packages for clients and conduct reviews with stakeholders.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Expertise in quantity take-offs and square foot estimating.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of modern building construction systems, methodologies, and practices.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, bonding, and insurance prerequisites.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with on-screen take-off tools, particularly Planswift, Bluebeam, and Procore, is highly preferred.
