Fraud Risk Management Lead

The Fraud Risk Management Lead collaborates across departments to oversee the Credit Union's fraud prevention and investigation initiatives aimed at reducing and managing fraud-related challenges and threats. This role entails performing comprehensive investigations into suspicious activities linked to fraud, determining suitable actions, addressing inquiries from both internal and external members, utilizing analytical methods to pinpoint and assess trends, formulating a unified strategy for fraud mitigation across diverse fraud sources, generating analytical reports, and providing education to stakeholders on fraud-related subjects.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide a team of fraud analysts in managing daily fraud investigations while fostering their professional and technical growth in fraud risk management and loss mitigation practices.
- Oversee daily operations to ensure compliance with internal quality benchmarks and regulatory standards.
- Conduct risk evaluations to identify significant fraud sources and propose effective control measures to minimize risks.
- Design and execute robust fraud detection and prevention strategies that balance fraud loss mitigation with member experience.
- Contribute to the development, management, and enhancement of monitoring tools.
- Remain informed about current, emerging, and evolving fraud trends affecting financial institutions and devise strategies to safeguard the Credit Union against these threats.
- Prepare management reports detailing significant fraud activities to track the Credit Union's fraud landscape and support mitigation efforts.
- Identify potential fraud risks in new and existing products/services and establish adequate fraud prevention controls to reduce losses and risks.
- Deliver training to Credit Union staff and support departments to enhance awareness of fraud schemes and effective prevention techniques.
- Coordinate with compliance officers to ensure timely and accurate filing of required suspicious activity reports.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, as well as regulations related to financial crime prevention.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, criminal justice, fraud management, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of experience in financial institution operations and fraud management.
- A minimum of 5 years of substantial analytical experience.
- At least 2 years of prior leadership or management experience.
- ACFE designation or equivalent AML certification/license.
- Ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in high-pressure situations.
- Exceptional customer service skills, including the ability to cultivate professional relationships with internal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), with the ability to present information effectively to groups.
- Capability to handle highly confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement internal controls to enhance business strategies for detecting, correcting, and preventing fraudulent activities.
- Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, data analysis, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently with a strong focus on process improvement.
- Capacity to manage multiple assignments, objectives, and reporting requests effectively.
- Willingness to work on-site and remotely as required.
- Experience with data analytics and reporting.
- Willingness to travel as necessary between various operational locations.
