The Weitz Company is looking for a Regional Safety Manager to oversee safety protocols for data center initiatives within our Mission Critical Business Unit.

The Regional Safety Manager plays a crucial role in the development, execution, and uniform application of The Weitz Safety Standards across designated operations. This position holds accountability for the performance of Safety Managers, Safety Engineers, and Project Safety Managers assigned to various projects. The primary objective is to eliminate workplace injuries and incidents while effectively managing associated risks. Additionally, this role involves fostering and maintaining productive relationships with executive leadership within the assigned business unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to Regional and Segment safety committees, joint accountability committees, and other relevant meetings.
  • Research and compile essential safety information.
  • Disseminate safety materials and act as a resource for safety, security, and fire protection guidance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant company policies and procedures.
  • Prepare comprehensive safety performance reports for management teams.
  • Fulfill necessary roles in crisis management.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings for high-risk projects as required.
  • Assist in project safety planning and the development of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
  • Have the authority to halt construction activities in situations posing imminent danger to life or health.
  • Monitor and manage expenditures within the regional department budget.
  • Develop and implement a thorough employee safety education program covering various topics such as emergency preparedness, fire prevention, and injury prevention.
  • Stay current with OSHA 500 training, required every three years, and provide instruction as necessary.
  • Additional responsibilities include auditing compliance, training, and claims management.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, construction, engineering, or a related field is essential. Safety certifications such as OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, and CIH are preferred.
  • Experience: Candidates should possess extensive experience in safety and/or construction, with a minimum of 10 years in roles such as safety manager, safety engineer, or safety professional. Proven experience in managing safety processes or holding formal safety positions is crucial.
  • Skills: Strong independent judgment, excellent organizational and time management abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple projects are necessary. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional communication, leadership, and supervisory skills, with the ability to present to large groups. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required. Analytical and interpretative skills are desirable, along with attention to detail in report preparation. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are also necessary.
  • Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required, with the ability to learn additional software as needed. Training will be provided on company standards.
