As a leading provider of automotive testing facilities, we offer a comprehensive suite of services to clients in the automotive sector. Our clientele encompasses major vehicle manufacturers, original equipment producers (OEMs), and participants from the global motorsport arena.

Our expertise spans a wide array of automotive testing environments, including climatic and driveability wind tunnels, aerodynamic and acoustic chambers, emissions testing facilities, soak rooms, altitude testing chambers, engine and powertrain testing cells, and electromagnetic anechoic chambers. We not only design and construct these sophisticated facility systems but also oversee their operation, maintenance, and management.

We are looking for skilled Wind Tunnel Technicians.

This is an afternoon shift role, from 3 PM to 11:30 PM. Initial training will occur during the day, transitioning to afternoon shifts after a few months. A shift premium is provided for afternoon work.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Core Responsibilities:
    • Preparation and de-preparation of vehicles (installation and removal of wind tunnel instrumentation)
    • Operation of wind tunnels and chassis dynamometers
    • Customer interface and support in the garage, soak rooms, and testing cells
    • Responding to all radio communications
    • Managing vehicle entry and release in the database
    • Tracking vehicle status across multiple databases
    • Installation and removal of camouflage on test vehicles
    • Cleaning vehicles as required
    • Assisting with cold chamber defrosting and defogging tests
    • Providing driver support for test cells and soak rooms
    • Offering assistance to all technicians
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in all garage areas

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Availability for afternoon shifts from 3 PM to 11:30 PM.
  • Basic understanding of automotive components and their functions
  • Familiarity with fundamental electrical testing methods
  • Basic computer skills and interfacing knowledge
  • General technical proficiency
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude
  • Effective communication abilities

Preferred:

Three years of experience as an automotive mechanic or in wind tunnel/dynamometer operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Handling parts, cables, and lightweight instrumentation up to 50 lbs, 60% of the time
  • Climbing: Not applicable

  • Required safety gear: Safety glasses, gloves, slip-resistant shoes, 100%. Cold weather gear provided as needed.
  • Physical activity: Sitting (50%), Standing (50%), Bending (25%), Stooping (25%). Manual labor is required.
  • Noise exposure: High noise levels in certain areas necessitating hearing protection, 20% of the time

Work Environment:

  • Location: Primarily inside a testing facility, 90%
  • Temperature extremes: Exposure to temperatures ranging from -40F to 140F, with limited exposure to extreme conditions, 10%
  • Hazardous conditions: Potential exposure to energized samples and rotating machinery, 50%
  • Travel requirements: Occasional local travel, 5%

Equipment and Tools:

  • Office equipment: Computers, copy machines, fax machines, 25%
  • Vehicles and machinery: Low lift and forklift (certification provided on-site), 15%
  • Tools: Hand tools, multimeters, and other electrical diagnostic instruments, 10%

Attendance Requirements:

  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday with occasional overtime and weekend work.
  • Shift: Afternoon shift, with flexibility to cover other shifts and weekends as needed.
  • Regular attendance: Critical
  • Punctuality: Essential
  • Standard work hours: Typically 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, Monday to Friday. Consistent attendance and punctuality are crucial. Flexibility in workdays is necessary to accommodate weekend testing.

Additional Requirements:

Completion of a pre-employment drug screening, health performance evaluation, and background check is mandatory, in addition to:

  • Altitude examination
  • Audiogram
  • Power Motor Vehicle Examination
  • Demonstrating professionalism in all interactions with customers, management, and colleagues.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Appropriate grooming and attire for the position, ensuring no safety risks.
  • Maintaining a positive work environment through professional behavior and communication.
  • Reliable personal transportation to the work site is required.
