As a leading provider of automotive testing solutions, we offer a comprehensive suite of services to our clients in the automotive sector. Our clientele includes major vehicle manufacturers and original equipment producers, as well as participants from the global motorsports arena.

Our expertise spans a wide array of automotive testing facilities, such as climatic and driveability wind tunnels, aerodynamic and acoustic chambers, emissions testing rooms, and engine test cells. We not only design and construct these facilities but also manage and maintain them.

We are seeking skilled Wind Tunnel Technicians.

This role operates on an afternoon shift from 3 PM to 11:30 PM, with initial training during the day before transitioning to the afternoon schedule. A shift premium is provided for afternoon work.

BRIEF OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Core Responsibilities:
    • Preparation and de-preparation of vehicles (installation and removal of wind tunnel instrumentation)
    • Operation of wind tunnels and chassis dynamometers
    • Customer support in the garage, soak rooms, and testing cells
    • Responding to all radio communications
    • Managing vehicle entry and exit in the database
    • Monitoring vehicle status across various databases
    • Installation and removal of camouflage on test vehicles
    • Vehicle cleaning as required
    • Assisting with cold chamber defrosting and defogging tests
    • Providing driver support for test cells and soak rooms
    • Offering assistance to all technicians
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in all garage areas

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Availability for afternoon shifts from 3 PM to 11:30 PM.
  • Basic understanding of automotive components and their functions
  • Familiarity with basic electrical testing methods
  • Proficiency with computers and data interfacing
  • General technical aptitude
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude
  • Effective communication skills

Preferred:

3 years of experience as an automotive technician or in wind tunnel/dynamometer operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Handling parts, cables, and lightweight instrumentation up to 50 lbs., 60% of the time
  • Climbing: Not applicable

  • Required safety gear: Safety glasses, gloves, and slip-resistant shoes, 100%. Cold weather gear provided as needed.
  • Physical activity: Sitting (50%), Standing (50%), Bending (25%), Stooping (25%). The role involves manual labor.
  • Noise exposure: High noise levels in certain areas necessitating hearing protection, 20% of the time

Work Environment:

  • Location: Primarily inside a testing facility, 90%
  • Temperature extremes: Exposure to temperatures ranging from -40F to 140F, with limited exposure to extreme conditions, 10%
  • Hazardous conditions: Exposure to energized samples and rotating machinery, 50%
  • Travel requirements: Occasional local travel, 5%

Equipment and Tools Used:

  • Office equipment: Computers, copiers, and fax machines, 25%
  • Vehicles and machinery: Low lift and fork lift (certification provided on-site), 15%
  • Tools: Hand tools, multi-meters, and other electrical diagnostic devices, 10%

Attendance and Punctuality:

  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday with occasional overtime and weekend work.
  • Shift: Afternoon shift, with flexibility to support varying test schedules, including weekends.
  • Regular attendance is critical.
  • Punctuality is essential.
  • Standard work hours are typically 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Consistent attendance and punctuality are vital. Flexibility is required to accommodate weekend testing.

Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment drug screening, health evaluation, and background check, along with:

  • Altitude examination
  • Audiogram
  • Power Motor Vehicle Exam
  • Demonstration of professional conduct in interactions with customers, management, and colleagues.
  • Clear and effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Appropriate grooming and attire for the position, ensuring safety for oneself and others.
  • Maintaining a positive work environment through professional behavior and communication.
  • Reliable personal transportation to the work site is required.
