Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Youth Development Professional to work with students in grades 6 through 12.

Work Schedule: 22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with hours varying between summer and school year.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Youth Development Professional is responsible for fostering a vibrant, engaging, and supportive environment for club members, aligned with the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo (BGC). This role involves teaching essential Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills, delivering quality youth programming, nurturing positive relationships, and ensuring a safe and welcoming atmosphere.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome youth and create an energetic atmosphere that promotes fun and engagement.
  • Design and lead a variety of age-appropriate activities that enhance social emotional and educational skills, including special programs and events.
  • Support Unit goals related to youth development quality and SEL by evaluating members' social-emotional behaviors and providing targeted activities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of club activities, programs, and effective youth development strategies.
  • Be versatile across all unit roles to assist as needed and participate in training new staff members.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to ensure high-quality programming.
  • Foster a healthy environment that encourages positive relationships among peers and adults, prioritizing physical and emotional safety.
  • Establish clear expectations and model desired behaviors for youth.
  • Implement the Club's Member Behavior Policy, which includes Positive Behavior Support and Trauma-Informed Care practices.
  • Manage membership documentation and track attendance using the MyClubHub database.
  • Engage in National Youth Outcome Initiatives (NYOI) and Youth Program Quality Intervention (YPQI) processes to enhance program practices.
  • Ensure the organization and cleanliness of the Club space, completing daily checklists and managing inventory.
  • Assist the Unit Manager in disseminating information to members regarding events and programs.
  • Develop and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for job responsibilities.
  • Adhere to mandated reporting guidelines.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of Club-wide events, including fundraisers and outreach initiatives.
  • Participate in all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Wear the designated Boys & Girls Club staff uniform during work hours and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Club's Safety Policies and Crisis Management Plan, responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Exhibit professional conduct in accordance with the Boys & Girls Club Personnel Policy.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a youth development setting, particularly with diverse populations.
  • Proven ability to create and implement engaging educational and recreational activities.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with members and address behavioral issues constructively.
  • Passion for working with youth and fostering their development.
  • Experience facilitating programs for various age groups, ensuring they are creative and enjoyable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and promote a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience interacting with youth, parents, and colleagues effectively.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
