Overview

Reporting directly to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Buyer plays a crucial role in acquiring materials, supplies, and services under optimal conditions for Ole Smoky Distillery, LLC, aligned with Category Strategy Plans. This position involves qualifying suppliers, assessing bids, and negotiating pricing and terms for goods and services. The Senior Buyer is responsible for tracking purchases, managing inventory levels, ensuring vendor quality, and maintaining supplier records. This role is integral to achieving team objectives and overall business goals.

Key Responsibilities

● Uphold safe working practices consistently.

● Formulate and sustain Category Purchasing Strategies.

● Ensure adherence to high-quality standards.

● Analyze spending operations to identify opportunities for enhancing product quality and delivery timelines.

● Collaborate with various operational departments to facilitate the efficient movement of goods impacting production.

● Establish, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for vendors.

● Evaluate vendor operations against quality benchmarks and decide on the onboarding of new suppliers.

● Engage in the design and execution of essential supply chain optimization initiatives.

● Identify cost-saving opportunities with both new and existing suppliers.

● Conduct risk management assessments for current supply contracts and establish new agreements as required.

● Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms for Ole Smoky.

● Oversee both direct and indirect expenses to ensure effective cost management.

● Perform additional purchasing-related duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Educational Background

BS/BA in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing Management, or a related field.

● Minimum of 7 years of experience in a Buyer role or a similar capacity.

● Proficient in procurement systems and applications (ERP, MRP, etc.).

● Comprehensive understanding of the supply chain process, including inventory planning and warehouse management.

● Strong command of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ERP/MRP systems (e.g., NetSuite).

● Experience utilizing Total Cost of Ownership in decision-making processes.

● Familiarity with Purchase to Pay processes.

● Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities using data (Supply Chain, Process, etc.).

● High attention to detail and accuracy.

● Strong organizational and collaborative skills.

● Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

● Excellent interpersonal skills and a solid work ethic.

● Capacity to learn industry trends, dynamics, and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

● APICS, CPPM, or CPP Certification (preferred).

● Preference for candidates with experience in NetSuite.

● Outstanding communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders, both verbal and written.

● Proactive in identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies.

● Flexibility to adapt and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

● Knowledge of general production processes.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

● Regularly required to sit and operate a computer.

● Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and engage in conversations.

● Occasionally required to stand, walk, and perform various physical activities.

● May lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

● Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
