Position Overview:

Are you passionate about hands-on projects that contribute to national defense? Serco North America is seeking a Lead Mechanical Fabrication Specialist to become an integral part of a significant initiative supporting the U.S. Navy.

The Lead Mechanical Fabrication Specialist will collaborate with a dynamic team focused on the installation of advanced C5ISR systems. Your expertise and teamwork will play a crucial role in enhancing the safety and operational readiness of our naval forces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a small team or operate independently to achieve project goals.
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, and diagrams to construct and assemble various electromechanical and electronic systems.
  • Work in challenging environments aboard naval vessels, where conditions may include drafts, noise, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Prioritize safety and adhere to established protocols.
  • Exhibit proficiency in working with assembly drawings and schematics to complete diverse assembly tasks.
  • Possess a solid understanding of industry standards and practices.

Qualifications:

To excel in this position, candidates should possess:

  • A High School Diploma.
  • The capability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Access to shipyards and the ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
  • OSHA and Forklift certifications.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in shipyard operations.
  • 8 years of combined experience in:
    • Constructing basic connectors.
    • Managing HAZMAT storage and safety protocols.
    • Understanding quality assurance and contractual obligations.
    • Reading technical drawings at an apprentice level.
    • Utilizing tools for drilling, cutting, and assembly without supervision.
    • Supporting HAZMAT management and safety initiatives.
    • Handling cableways, deck plates, and equipment.
    • Operating light machinery and equipment.
    • Joining and sealing pipe and conduit sections.
    • Obtaining Firewatch/Cable Installer certifications.
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of workspaces.
    • Removing insulation and painting surfaces.
    • Conducting safety Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and advocating for safety programs.
  • Experience supervising junior mechanical assemblers and laborers.
  • Ability to follow instructions from senior personnel.
  • Proficiency in using power tools for both large-scale and intricate mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience in the fabrication and precise assembly of mechanical components.
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting and maneuvering heavy materials.
  • Flexibility to travel as required.
  • Willingness to relocate or work in designated areas.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active DoD Secret clearance.
  • OSHA Certification.
