Position Overview

The Scheduling & Optimization Manager plays a pivotal role in enhancing the operational framework by developing and executing a comprehensive scheduling and optimization strategy. This role involves analyzing and evaluating data to align raw materials and manufacturing capabilities with market opportunities, ensuring both long-term strategic and short-term tactical goals are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the integration and effective use of scheduling software across manufacturing sites, ensuring collaboration of variable inputs such as BOMs, costs, and production rates.
  • Develop an optimization tool aimed at maximizing the use of raw materials, machine capabilities, and market demand to enhance profitability.
  • Engage in the formulation of SIOP plans, ensuring alignment with mill scheduling.
  • Manage the scheduling strategy and establish metrics to evaluate the success of on-site schedulers.
  • Facilitate succession planning and coverage for on-site scheduling personnel.
  • Collaborate closely with on-site schedulers to create and maintain production schedules that optimize efficiency and meet output targets.
  • Work in conjunction with Sales and Operations to manage variances and execute strategies that consider materials, inventory, resource availability, and delivery commitments.
  • Assist in adjusting production schedules to accommodate client order changes and fluctuations in production capacity.
  • Analyze supply and demand constraints, providing insights and recommendations for risk management and inventory optimization.
  • Support the development of tactical master scheduling strategies with a focus on market opportunities and customer engagement.
  • Prepare and distribute timely reports to internal stakeholders while maintaining accurate records.
  • Provide training and support to schedulers on software applications.
  • Perform additional duties as required, embodying the company's core values.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing IT, Supply Chain, Wood Science, Business, or a related field, coupled with 5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP/CRM systems, data structuring, relational databases, and technical project management.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to prioritize inputs from various stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Exceptional verbal, listening, and written communication abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Understanding of enterprise-level business processes and their impact on scheduling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and interact effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency and strong self-motivation.
  • Willingness to travel for meetings as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing context.
  • Background in the forest products industry.
