Role Overview
The Scheduling & Optimization Manager plays a crucial role in advancing the company's scheduling and optimization framework. This position is responsible for aligning long-term strategic initiatives with immediate operational goals through comprehensive data analysis and evaluation. The goal is to effectively synchronize raw material availability with manufacturing capabilities and market demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the integration and effective use of scheduling software across manufacturing sites, ensuring the incorporation of various inputs such as Bill of Materials (BOMs), costs, and production rates.
- Develop and implement an optimization tool aimed at maximizing the utilization of raw materials, machine capabilities, and market demand to enhance overall profitability.
- Contribute to the creation of Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) strategies, ensuring alignment with mill scheduling.
- Manage the scheduling strategy and establish metrics to evaluate the success of on-site scheduling personnel.
- Facilitate succession planning and coverage strategies for on-site scheduling teams.
- Collaborate closely with on-site schedulers to formulate, prepare, and maintain production schedules that optimize efficiency and meet production targets.
- Work in conjunction with Sales and Operations teams to manage variances and execute strategies that account for material availability, inventory levels, and delivery commitments.
- Assist in adjusting production schedules to accommodate client order changes and fluctuations in production capacity.
- Analyze supply and demand constraints, offering insights and recommendations for risk management and inventory optimization.
- Support the development of tactical master scheduling strategies, focusing on market opportunities and customer engagement.
- Generate timely reports for internal stakeholders and maintain organized records.
- Provide training and support to scheduling personnel on software applications.
- Perform additional duties as required, embodying the company's core values.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing IT, Supply Chain Management, Wood Science, Business, or a related discipline, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP/CRM systems, data structuring, relational databases, and project management.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to prioritize input from various stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of enterprise-level business processes and their impact on scheduling.
- Positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively across all organizational levels.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Exhibit a sense of urgency and strong self-motivation.
- Willingness to travel for meetings as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing context.
- Background in the forest products sector.
