Position Summary

The Scheduling & Optimization Manager plays a critical role in enhancing operational efficiency by developing and executing a comprehensive scheduling and optimization framework. This role focuses on aligning raw material availability and manufacturing capabilities with market demands through thorough data analysis and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the integration and effective use of scheduling software across manufacturing sites, ensuring accurate collaboration of variable inputs such as BOMs, costs, and production rates.
  • Develop an advanced optimization tool that effectively aligns raw materials, machine capabilities, and market demand to enhance profitability.
  • Contribute to the formulation of SIOP plans, ensuring alignment with mill scheduling processes.
  • Manage scheduling strategies and establish metrics to evaluate the performance of on-site scheduling teams.
  • Facilitate succession planning and coverage strategies for scheduling personnel.
  • Collaborate closely with on-site schedulers to create and maintain production schedules that maximize efficiency and meet production targets.
  • Work in partnership with Sales and Operations to manage variances and execute strategies that consider material availability, inventory levels, and delivery commitments.
  • Assist in adjusting production schedules in response to client order changes and production capacity fluctuations.
  • Analyze supply and demand constraints, offering insights and recommendations for risk management and inventory optimization.
  • Support the development of tactical master scheduling strategies that focus on market opportunities and customer needs.
  • Prepare and distribute timely reports to internal stakeholders, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Provide training and support to scheduling staff on software applications.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Exemplify the core values of the company in all interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing IT, Supply Chain Management, Wood Science, Business, or a related field, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient understanding of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP/CRM systems, data structuring, relational databases, and project management tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to prioritize inputs from various stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Understanding of enterprise-level business processes and their impact on scheduling.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency and strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel for meetings as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Background in the forest products industry.
