General Purpose
The Correctional Facility Officer is tasked with upholding order and ensuring the safety of inmates within the correctional facility.

Supervision Received
This role reports directly to a Corrections Supervisor - Sergeant and Corrections Supervisor - Lieutenant, or other designated supervisory personnel.

Supervision Exercised
This position does not involve supervising other staff members.

Essential Duties
Corrections Officers may be required to work beyond standard hours and must be capable of performing their duties effectively.
1. Process incoming inmates.
2. Conduct searches of the facility and inmate cells in accordance with established protocols.
3. Transport inmates as required.
4. Monitor inmate activities, ensuring both supervision and interaction.
5. Coordinate daily inmate activities.
6. Conduct rounds to ensure the safety and well-being of inmates.
7. Complete necessary paperwork, including reports on incidents or rule violations.
8. Interact with the public and coordinate with external agencies and internal personnel.
9. Enter data into the facility's computer system.
10. Review and interpret court orders, remands, and releases.
11. Observe inmates for any violations of regulations or unusual behavior.
12. Physically restrain inmates when necessary to maintain safety and security.
13. Utilize weapons, handcuffs, and minimal physical force to uphold discipline.
14. Familiarize with inmate identities and brief incoming shifts on unusual activities.
15. Attend shift briefings and review departmental bulletins.
16. Direct inmates in maintaining cleanliness in their living areas.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license with a clean record; preferred age of twenty-one (21) years, with consideration for applicants aged eighteen (18) to twenty (20) based on maturity and experience.

Medical Examination: A post-offer medical examination, including a drug screening, is mandatory.

Psychological Examination: A psychological assessment must be completed prior to hiring.

Background Investigation: A thorough background check will be conducted for all candidates.

Academy Training: Successful completion of a training program is required, along with a one-year probationary period.

Firearm Certification: Officers must qualify for firearm use upon hire and annually thereafter.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Understanding of inmate and facility search procedures.
2. Familiarity with jail regulations and laws.
3. Knowledge of first aid.
4. Ability to manage crisis situations.
5. Proficiency in report writing.
6. Effective communication skills.
7. Ability to operate various equipment and vehicles.

Physical Demands:
Officers must be able to perform physical tasks, including lifting and restraining inmates.

Work Environment:
Officers may work in various conditions, including exposure to outdoor elements and potential hazards.
