Job Overview
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Custodial Security Officer is tasked with monitoring the Government Center facilities during assigned shifts. This role involves conducting patrols of designated areas every two to three hours.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports directly to the Custodian Crew Leader and Custodial Superintendent.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This role does not include the supervision of other personnel.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Secure buildings at the end of operational hours.
- Establish and manage a sign-in log for any access after hours.
- Facilitate building access for authorized personnel during weekends.
- Conduct regular patrols of the premises every two to three hours during the shift, ensuring all doors, windows, and entry points are secure.
- Guide visitors to their intended destinations.
- Document and report any incidents or observations to supervisory staff.
- Identify and report custodial or maintenance needs during patrols.
- Distribute newspapers to designated offices on weekends.
- Monitor and log readings from water and air pressure gauges in boiler and fire systems.
- Complete a Watchperson Incident Report at the conclusion of each shift.
*This position may involve performing a majority of the duties listed, but not necessarily all. Minor tasks not listed may also be part of the role.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient in reading and understanding safety protocols related to custodial and security duties.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Capable of responding courteously to colleagues and the public.
- Ability to perform physical tasks as required.
- Proficient in English communication sufficient for job duties.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
- Standard office equipment, keys, and communication devices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements for this role include regular standing, walking, and manual handling of objects. The employee may occasionally need to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds and, at times, more than 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees may encounter various environmental conditions, including exposure to moving machinery, heights, and potentially hazardous materials.
