Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced English Language Learning Program Coordinator and Instructor to join our team at the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating English classes for our refugee clients and working with them to ensure their access and compliance with official requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct intakes and assessments for eligible clients to determine their language proficiency and learning needs.
  • Place clients in appropriate classes or refer them to external English language learning providers to ensure they receive the support they need.
  • Work closely with teachers to ensure the smooth operation of offered classes and provide support as needed.
  • Track attendance and student participation to ensure clients' compliance with official requirements and to monitor their progress.
  • Teach classes when necessary and feasible, using a variety of teaching methods and materials to engage students and promote language learning.
  • Identify and address obstacles that may prevent students from accessing classes, such as transportation, childcare, language barriers, and technological illiteracy.
  • Ensure that grant-specific requirements are fulfilled and that all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree in TESOL, TESL, or Applied Linguistics is preferred, but other educational backgrounds may be considered.
  • Teaching experience, particularly with adult English language learners, is preferred, but other applicable teaching experience may be considered.
  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, public speaking, and web-based communication.
  • Ability to use technological tools, including Zoom, Google Suite, Excel, Word, and WhatsApp.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently, with a high level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, troubleshoot, and follow projects through without losing attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including keen listening ability and relationship building.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis.
  • A valid State-issued driver's license, insurance, clean driving record, and personal transportation are required.
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI's values, including respect for others, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
  • Dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people.
Training and Development
  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training.
  • Additional training as identified by the supervisor, program manager, or Human Resources.
Physical Demands
  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
  • Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
