Your Contribution
The Senior Employment Counsel will manage a diverse range of labor and employment issues, including litigation, administrative complaints, attorney correspondence, and corporate advisory matters that are essential to the organization. This role will involve extensive collaboration across various departments to devise solutions to the legal challenges faced by Lowe's on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will thrive in a cooperative, self-motivated, and dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Litigation Oversight –

    • Supervise and coordinate employment-related litigation and administrative complaints managed by external legal counsel, focusing on risk mitigation opportunities with vendors and subcontractors.

    • Oversee budgets and expenses associated with external legal representation.

    • Investigate and address grievances, inquiries, audits, and other employment-related matters.
  2. Advisory Services –

    • Provide legal guidance on a wide array of employment law topics, including hiring practices, employee relations, performance assessments, leave policies, wage regulations, internal investigations, compensation, and immigration matters.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage projects with a collective approach.

    • Assess employment practices and policies to align with organizational priorities and ensure legal compliance.

    • Draft and evaluate employment-related documents, agreements, and templates.

    • Conduct audits and reviews related to employment classifications and support compliance initiatives.

    • Assist in the development of training materials for staff and management in conjunction with Human Resources.
  3. Transactional Responsibilities –

    • Draft, review, and negotiate various standard agreements and documents while continuously seeking improvements in forms, processes, or systems.

    • Engage in negotiations with external parties regarding contractual matters and legal disputes, including settlement agreements and key contract terms.

Essential Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a prestigious law firm or a combination of experience in a top-tier law firm, corporate legal department, and/or government agency.

• Active member in good standing of the state bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

• At least 1 year of direct experience with legal issues pertaining to public companies.

• Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated expertise in labor and employment law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven track record of progressive achievements with a diverse range of experiences.

• Familiarity with legal challenges faced by multinational retailers.

• Financial acumen, including a basic understanding of project finance, accounting, and tax considerations.
