Your Contribution
The Senior Employment Counsel will manage a range of labor and employment issues, including litigation, administrative complaints, attorney correspondence, and corporate advisory services that are essential to the organization. This role requires collaboration across various departments to devise solutions for the legal challenges faced by Lowe's daily. The ideal candidate will thrive in a cooperative, self-motivated, and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Litigation Oversight –
• Supervise and coordinate employment-related litigation and administrative complaints managed by external legal counsel, including exploring risk-transfer options with vendors and subcontractors.
• Oversee budgets and expenses associated with outside legal representation.
• Investigate and address grievances, inquiries, audits, and other employment-related matters. - Legal Advisory –
• Provide comprehensive legal guidance on various employment law topics, including recruitment processes, employee relations, performance evaluations, leave management, wage and hour compliance, internal investigations, compensation, and benefits.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage projects effectively.
• Assess employment practices and policies to meet organizational objectives and ensure legal compliance.
• Draft and review employment-related documents, contracts, and templates.
• Conduct audits and reviews of employment classifications, supporting compliance initiatives.
• Assist in developing training and educational resources for staff and management in partnership with Human Resources. - Transactional Responsibilities –
• Draft, review, and negotiate various standard agreements and documents, continually seeking enhancements to processes and systems.
• Engage in negotiations with external parties regarding contractual matters and legal disputes, including settlement agreements and key contract terms.
Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a prestigious law firm or a combination of experience in a top-tier law firm, corporate legal department, and/or government agency.
• Active member in good standing of the state bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• At least 1 year of direct experience with legal issues pertinent to public companies.
• Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated expertise in labor and employment law.
Preferred Qualifications
• Proven track record of progressive achievements with a diverse range of experiences.
• Familiarity with legal challenges faced by multinational retailers.
• Financial acumen, including a basic understanding of project finance, accounting, and tax matters.
