Position Overview:

The Construction Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing preservation and restoration initiatives while managing administrative responsibilities at the job site in collaboration with the Project Manager (PM). This position is vital in facilitating the exchange of information among the field, office, management, subcontractors, and clients to ensure that all components and systems align with contractual agreements. The Superintendent aids the PM in supervising designated scopes of work and directing field personnel to achieve a high-quality project that adheres to timelines and budget constraints. The Durable Slate Company seeks a superintendent willing to travel, as our projects span across various locations.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Assist in planning and maintaining job site logistics and conditions.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Maintain daily site documentation, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA), and Daily Logs.
  • Document job progress through photographs.
  • Coordinate with the PM to ensure adequate field personnel are scheduled and present to efficiently complete scopes of work.
  • Collaborate with the PM on developing, monitoring, updating, and maintaining the project schedule.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of contractual scopes of work and ensure any additional tasks receive prior approval.
  • Work with the PM and Project Engineer (PE) to ensure compliance with approved products and methods.
  • Oversee the scheduling, safety, documentation, and quality of subcontractor work.
  • Ensure that changes to project files, plans, specifications, and as-built documents are communicated to the PE.
  • Keep job costs minimized and accurately tracked.
  • This role may be based from various locations, with travel to job sites required.

Communication:

  • Support the PM in building and maintaining relationships with owners' representatives, design professionals, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Act as a liaison among job site trades, subcontractors, and the PM.
  • Assist the PM and PE in managing and maintaining project-specific information systems.
  • Help the PM communicate schedule changes to all relevant parties.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

  • A degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience is also considered.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-phase project environment with changing priorities.
  • Aptitude for identifying and implementing more efficient practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in reading architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.

Software Proficiency:

  • Experience with Procore is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and other web-based tools.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is advantageous.
