Position Summary:
This role is contingent upon the award of a contract. The Medical Laboratory Technician will play a vital role in the laboratory department, conducting routine tests such as Complete Blood Counts (CBC), Liver Function Tests (LFTs), Urinalyses (UAs), D-Dimer assays, blood typing, and metabolic panels. The technician will support the daily operations of a blood bank under the supervision of a laboratory manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific discipline with relevant clinical laboratory training.
  • Current certification from a recognized national registry, such as MT(ASCP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential for effective communication.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • U.S. Department of State clearance or the ability to obtain one is mandatory.
  • Willingness to relocate as required.
  • A valid passport is necessary and must be maintained throughout the assignment.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Current expertise in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis.
  • Ability to perform complex testing, interpret results, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Familiarity with laboratory accreditation requirements (COLA, CLIA, CLIP).
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Proficient in using laboratory equipment and computerized systems.
  • Experience in patient interaction and customer service within a healthcare setting.
  • Must possess visual acuity to differentiate fine color gradations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
  • Adaptability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated absence of color blindness as per screening requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with standards set by Joint Commission, COLA, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, and HIPAA.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Supervisor to maintain a functional blood bank.
  • Conduct routine and urgent laboratory tests for patient care.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance laboratory skills.
  • Support the hospital's mission and objectives while promoting patient rights.
  • Foster teamwork within the laboratory and across departments.
  • Participate in training and orientation for new staff.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure reviews.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a military or government contracting environment is advantageous.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is typically performed in an office or laboratory setting.
  • May require prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs may be necessary.
