Position Summary:
This role is contingent upon the successful award of a contract. The Medical Laboratory Technician plays a vital role in the laboratory department, performing essential laboratory tests such as CBC, LFTs, UAs, D-Dimer, blood typing, and metabolic panels. This position also involves assisting in the daily operations of a blood bank under the supervision of a laboratory manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific discipline with relevant clinical laboratory training.
  • Current certification from a recognized national registry such as MT(ASCP).
  • Preferred: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Must possess a Common Access Card (CAC) or be eligible to obtain one.
  • Proficiency in English is required for effective communication.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • US Department of State clearance or the ability to obtain one is mandatory.
  • Willingness to relocate as required.
  • A valid passport is necessary and must be maintained throughout the assignment.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Current expertise in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis.
  • Ability to perform complex testing, interpret results, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements (COLA, CLIA, CLIP).
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and computerized systems.
  • Experience in patient interaction and strong communication skills.
  • Visual acuity to distinguish fine color gradations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Adhere to practices that meet Joint Commission, COLA, CLIA, and OSHA standards.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Supervisor to establish a functional blood bank.
  • Conduct routine and urgent laboratory tests as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining the blood bank's operations.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Commit to continuous professional development and skill enhancement.
  • Deliver patient care that prioritizes safety and well-being.
  • Support the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Encourage positive relationships within the laboratory and across departments.
  • Maintain professional conduct and participate in training initiatives.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure reviews as necessary.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a military or government contracting environment is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is desired.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is typically performed in an office environment.
  • Involves prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
  • May require lifting up to 15 lbs.
