Position Overview

This role is centered in a dynamic construction environment and primarily involves field operations. The individual will report directly to the designated project manager or superintendent. The position necessitates proficiency in operating heavy machinery, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, compactors, and forklifts, as well as the effective use of general construction tools. The incumbent will oversee and coordinate the activities of field personnel and subcontractors, while also participating in labor tasks as needed.

Compensation
The remuneration for this role aligns with the Local Union Rate. We welcome applications from out-of-state Union workers and encourage non-union applicants to apply, with the understanding that Union membership will be required upon hiring.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute daily tasks in compliance with relevant safety and health regulations applicable to the job site.
  • Interpret construction specifications, including blueprints and schedules, to ascertain project requirements and strategize activities.
  • Anticipate work tasks and coordinate with the project manager to ensure the availability of necessary equipment, supplies, and tools for timely and budget-compliant task completion.
  • Monitor progress and communicate potential delays or budget issues to the on-site team.
  • Inspect work progress and equipment to ensure adherence to safety standards and project specifications.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of construction personnel.
  • Collaborate with the team on site measurements and placements, identifying any potential conflicts.
  • Document personnel, production, and operational data as required.
  • Assist construction workers with hand tools and equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by monitoring for hazards and taking proactive measures to mitigate risks.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and follow directions from management.
  • Stay vigilant regarding surroundings and recognize site-specific hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards throughout operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Supervision
This role involves overseeing on-site operators, laborers, and subcontractors.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the construction field, with prior experience in a supervisory role.
  • Familiarity with personnel management techniques to guide site personnel in adherence to safety protocols.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and personnel management techniques.
  • Understanding of Alaska Native cultures.

• Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
• May require prolonged standing and walking.
