Role Description

Sanctuary for Families is in search of a Project Assistant to support attorneys within the Family Law Project. This role will involve representing survivors of domestic and gender-based violence in various legal proceedings, including family offense, custody/visitation, child/spousal support, and matrimonial matters. The Project Assistant will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, including data management, file organization, community outreach, and collaboration with partner agencies to advocate for systemic improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive litigation support to project attorneys, including drafting and revising legal documents, conducting client interviews, and managing correspondence.
  • Assist in the organization and administrative support of pro se clinics.
  • Engage in direct advocacy for clients with municipal and state agencies.
  • Facilitate client intakes, schedule appointments, and maintain communication as necessary.
  • Connect clients with relevant legal and social services within and beyond Sanctuary for Families.
  • Prepare grant applications on behalf of clients to enhance their economic stability and secure emergency financial assistance.
  • Maintain client databases and files, assisting attorneys with case preparation and organization.
  • Coordinate trainings, meetings, and community outreach initiatives, while actively participating in outreach efforts.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, demonstrating proactivity and efficiency.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Interest in understanding legal systems and their effects on trauma survivors and marginalized communities.
  • Able to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • High standards of integrity and professionalism.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office, MS Teams, and Adobe Acrobat; familiarity with Salesforce is advantageous.
  • Fluency in a language other than English is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The budgeted salary for this position is $31.95 per hour, translating to an annual range of $52,650 - $58,158, contingent upon experience and in accordance with collective bargaining agreements.

This is a full-time position, requiring 35 hours per week, classified as hourly and non-exempt. The work schedule is currently hybrid, necessitating adherence to job location obligations.
