Unit Mission:

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is committed to delivering comprehensive, cutting-edge clinical services, educating medical students, residents, and observers, and engaging in clinical and translational research. Our pediatric specialties service is the only full-service children's hospital in the region, providing extensive emergency, primary, secondary, advanced, tertiary, and long-term care, with over 40 pediatric medical and surgical services.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified Pediatric Otolaryngologist to enhance our academic practice. The ideal candidate will be board eligible/certified and fellowship-trained in Pediatric Otolaryngology. This role offers a competitive salary and academic appointment based on experience. The physician will deliver clinical expertise in the surgical management of various Otolaryngology conditions, contribute to the education of residents and students, and pursue excellence in research within their specialty. The Department emphasizes a strong research and professional activity level, crucial for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) program and faculty development.

Pediatric Services Development:

There is significant momentum in advancing pediatric health services. A state-of-the-art, multi-story ambulatory facility for pediatric outpatient services has been established, featuring:
  • 72 examination rooms organized in clinical pods to enhance multidisciplinary care.
  • Clinical pods with 12 exam rooms, a treatment room, and support space for a centralized clinical team.
  • Pediatric-focused imaging, operating, and procedure rooms.
  • Dedicated pediatric faculty offices.
  • A connected parking structure with over 600 spaces.
A new, full-service Pediatric Hospital has also been launched, designed to meet the unique healthcare needs of children and provide advanced, coordinated care.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching: Engage in the education of residents, medical students, and observers, including delivering continuing medical education (CME) lectures.

Research: Establish a reputation for excellence in clinical and/or translational research, with expectations for publication in peer-reviewed journals and potential external funding. Collaborate across disciplines to enhance research and clinical programs, and mentor residents and students in their research endeavors.

Service: Participate in departmental, health system, and university committees as needed. Engage in professional service roles such as reviewer, external committee member, and conference organizer.

Clinical: Focus primarily on clinical practice as a faculty member. Demonstrate excellence in patient care and treatment within the specialty, while also contributing to the growth of individual clinical practice and referral base. Participate in multidisciplinary clinical initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board certified/eligible in Otolaryngology
  • Fellowship trained
  • Licensed to practice medicine in Virginia upon hire
  • Experience in fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
