Reporting Structure

This position reports to the Application Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Sales organization and clients throughout the sales cycle by customizing ABB's products to align with customer specifications. Your daily tasks will include selecting optimal products and technologies for adaptation, preparing necessary documentation, and acting as a vital technical resource for your designated area. You will also leverage your expertise to identify and nurture new business opportunities through proactive networking and prospecting. The work model for this role is hybrid. Your primary responsibilities will include:
• Conducting power system analysis utilizing industry-standard software (e.g., ETAP, ANSYS, SKM, EasyPower).
• Modeling transformer configurations (Wye, closed delta, open delta, zig-zag, extended delta, corner grounded network) and addressing power quality challenges including harmonics, transients (lightning, switching), sags, swells, power factor correction, and voltage distortion.
• Troubleshooting AC and DC drive systems and related components (circuit breakers, contactors, potential transformers, current transformers, etc.), including low and medium voltage products and power systems, grounding techniques, power quality issues, system efficiency, and electromagnetic interference (EMI, EMC).
• Generating detailed technical reports on product issues requiring resolution by other departments and conducting product, customer, and performance testing in the lab to address customer inquiries, contribute to technical notes, whitepapers, and training materials.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics with a minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial applications of AC and DC drives, or a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, UL, NEMA, IEC standards related to low and medium voltage drives and systems (preferably active participation in standards groups).
  • Engagement with IEEE IAS or similar societies (attending conferences, sharing insights with ABB personnel, presenting papers and tutorials).
  • Capability to develop proof of concepts in the application lab, with skills in prioritizing, scheduling, and delegating tasks to ensure timely and accurate outcomes.
  • Proficient in presenting technical information effectively to management, peers, and clients, both locally and on-site.
  • A collaborative team player capable of working with cross-functional teams and divisions to resolve issues or provide guidance.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10%, including one international trip annually.
  • Candidates must possess work authorization to be employed by ABB in the US.
