Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Maintenance Equipment Training Academy (META) Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for instruction and training of personnel in classifications from Caltrans Maintenance Worker to Caltrans Maintenance Manager II. The incumbent develops training courses and materials, researches course content, and evaluates the performance of students. The incumbent will also assist the META Superintendent with planning, organizing work, and completing reports. The incumbent will act as Lead Instructor during training sessions at various locations.

Responsibilities
  • Proper use, operation, servicing, minor repair, and adjustment of automotive and heavy maintenance equipment, trucks, mowers, loaders, air compressors, tractors, motor graders, street sweepers, diesel and gasoline engines, and other types of equipment used in Caltrans maintenance work.
  • Developing training courses and materials, researching course content, and evaluating the performance of students.
  • Assisting the META Superintendent with planning, organizing work, and completing reports.
  • Acting as Lead Instructor during training sessions at various locations.
Requirements
  • A valid California Drivers License (CDL) is required. Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) is desirable.
  • Possession of a Class C Driver License is required.
  • A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. The SOQ must be typed in Arial 12pt. font and must include "Statement of Qualifications" in the header. Two pages is the maximum allowable length.
Working Conditions

The position is located in Sacramento, Sacramento County. While at their base of operation, the incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. May also be required to travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, extreme heat or cold. May perform work requiring irregular hours, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays. This position may have some teleworking opportunities.

Benefits

The position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
