Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Maintenance Equipment Training Academy (META) Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for instruction and training of personnel in classifications from Caltrans Maintenance Worker to Caltrans Maintenance Manager II. Key responsibilities include:

  • Proper use, operation, servicing, minor repair, and adjustment of automotive and heavy maintenance equipment, trucks, mowers, loaders, air compressors, tractors, motor graders, street sweepers, diesel and gasoline engines, and other types of equipment used in Caltrans maintenance work.
  • Developing training courses and materials, researching course content, and evaluating the performance of students.
  • Assisting the META Superintendent with planning, organizing work, and completing reports.
  • Acting as Lead Instructor during training sessions at various locations.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
