About the Role

Arnold & Porter is seeking a seasoned Policy Advisor to join its Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience working in Congress, an Executive branch department or agency, or in a government relations role on behalf of an association, interest group, or company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic advocacy plans to advance clients' interests in the federal legislative and regulatory process.
  • Provide expert policy analysis and advice on tax, trade, technology, and energy policy matters.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including lawmakers, regulatory officials, and industry leaders.
  • Lead client service teams on specific issues and manage junior-level staff.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders through written and oral presentations.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in federal policy and regulatory affairs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience working in Congress or the Executive branch, or in government relations at a relevant nonprofit or for-profit company, trade association, or interest group.
  • Well-versed in the federal legislative and regulatory process.
  • Demonstrated policy expertise in more than one of the following areas: tax policy, trade policy, technology and telecommunications policy, environmental and/or energy policy.
  • Ability to develop and execute a strategic advocacy plan.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic focus, self-motivation, and a drive to action.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team.
  • Experience managing junior-level staff.
  • Capable of leading client service teams on specific issues.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in oral and written form.
  • Ability to exhibit significant attention to detail and produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Must possess good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to be registered for firm clients under both the Lobbying Disclosure Act and the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
