The Certified Sleep Technologist at the Institute for Sleep-Wake Disorders is responsible for conducting various sleep studies, including PSG, MSLT/MWT, HST, and PAP titrations, across a diverse patient demographic, from infants to seniors, under the guidance of the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

A typical day for a Certified Sleep Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health involves:

  • Reviewing patient information to prepare for sleep studies.
  • Setting up patients with necessary electrodes and monitoring devices for PSG, including pre-study equipment checks.
  • Monitoring patients throughout the study, documenting observations every thirty minutes.
  • Removing electrodes post-study and recording findings.
  • Keeping track of completion dates for PSG interpretation processes.
  • Ensuring all equipment is cleaned according to Infection Control protocols.
  • Scoring PSG/MSLT/MWT in line with AASM criteria and forwarding data for physician interpretation.
  • Conducting monthly inventory assessments.
  • Gathering data for monthly Performance Improvement reports.
  • Identifying equipment issues and coordinating repairs or replacements.
  • Performing inter-scorer reliability tests monthly.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace, sanitizing all surfaces at the end of shifts.
  • Participating in staff meetings and Journal Club.
  • Organizing patient charts and ensuring proper filing.
  • Collaborating with physicians and staff to review sleep studies.
  • Conducting mask fittings and CPAP trials for patients.
  • Engaging in community health fairs.
  • Performing routine checks on emergency equipment.
  • Utilizing the Epic hospital system for patient management.
  • Assisting with the Direct Referral process.
  • Setting up durable medical equipment for patients.
  • Completing necessary documentation for interpretation processes.
  • Participating in mandatory annual training programs.
  • Executing additional tasks as assigned by management to support departmental operations.
  • Adhering to organizational competencies and behavioral standards.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist certification.
  • New Jersey State License for RPSGT, Respiratory Therapist, or Registered Nurse.
  • Current CPR certification.
