Role Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering clinical support to designated patients under the guidance of a registered nurse or licensed healthcare provider. This position also encompasses administrative responsibilities within the office environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare examination and treatment areas, ensuring all necessary supplies and instruments are available.
- Assist in preparing patients for consultations and examinations as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Measure and document patients' vital signs accurately in their medical records.
- Understand the operation and maintenance of specialized medical equipment.
- Conduct EKGs, pulmonary function tests, audiometry, and Titmus tests, following a performance evaluation checklist.
- Perform urine drug screenings, breath alcohol tests, phlebotomy, and other laboratory tests as required after completing performance evaluations.
- Maintain patient records by completing documentation as instructed and organizing files and reports.
- Assist with billing and collection processes as necessary.
- Utilize software applications to manage office systems effectively.
- Recognize and address confidentiality concerns appropriately.
- Lift a minimum of 5 lbs., push and pull at least 10 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours daily.
- Assess the needs of the patient demographic served and tailor care accordingly (considering factors such as age, culture, language, and sensory impairments).
- Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and caregivers at their comprehension level.
- Adhere to the standards outlined in the organization's competencies.
Additional Responsibilities – Ambulatory and Office:
- Conduct initial screenings via phone and in-person.
- Gather and document patient medical histories.
- Prepare patients for procedures, treatments, and minor surgical interventions.
- Apply pharmacological principles to prepare and administer medications (excluding injections).
- Perform medication reconciliation.
- Screen and follow up on test results.
- Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance on clinical and administrative equipment.
- Provide education on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Schedule patient appointments, collect demographic and financial information, and input data into electronic management systems.
- Communicate pertinent information to licensed medical professionals and relay instructions to patients as directed.
- Coordinate inpatient and outpatient admissions and procedures.
- Organize and maintain medical records efficiently.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a relevant role. BLS and CMA certifications are required.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
Preferred Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Certifications Required: AHA BLS certification and one of the following:
- CMANHA (National Health Career Association)
- CMANCCT (National Center for Competency Testing)
- CMAAAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants)
- RMAAMT (American Medical Technologists)
- RMANAHP (National Association for Health Professionals)
- AMCA (American Medical Certification Association)
- NCMA (National Certification Medical Association)
Licenses:
- BLS - AHA
- CMA
