The Senior Technologist, Cellular Therapy Operations is entrusted with overseeing departmental functions in the absence of supervisory personnel, ensuring the seamless execution of both technical and administrative tasks within Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC).
Key Responsibilities
A typical day for a Senior Technologist, Cellular Therapy Operations at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Acting as the Lead Technologist and managing departmental operations when the supervisor is unavailable.
2. Prioritizing and ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures.
3. Verifying the accuracy of all tests conducted and addressing any specimen or result discrepancies.
4. Serving as a point of contact for hospital staff regarding technical and personnel matters.
5. Disseminating important information from the department head or supervisor to the staff.
6. Allocating and managing workloads to maximize efficiency.
7. Mentoring and training new team members.
8. Reviewing training documentation for new hires before they begin working independently.
9. Assisting in the preparation of documentation for laboratory compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
10. Engaging with inspectors during evaluations to address technical inquiries.
11. Performing both routine and complex procedures promptly and accurately as needed.
12. Overseeing the operation of laboratory instruments in line with established standards.
13. Managing quality control (QC) for all instruments, environmental monitoring, and inventory of products.
14. Conducting quality control (QC) checks as necessary and documenting all procedures and corrective actions taken.
15. Carrying out routine and complex maintenance on laboratory instruments.
16. Calibrating and standardizing instruments per departmental protocols.
17. Maintaining thorough and precise records.
18. Ensuring comprehensive documentation, calculations, and reporting of results.
19. Reviewing incoming orders and documentation for proper handling of Cellular Therapy products.
20. Coordinating the receipt and distribution of Cellular Therapy products according to departmental protocols.
21. Assisting in the documentation and oversight of competencies.
22. Aiding in preparations for regulatory and accreditation inspections.
23. Supporting the processing of proficiency testing materials.
24. Contributing to the development and review of comparison trials, final analyses, and validation of procedures, equipment, and testing methods.
25. Managing the receipt and inventory of supplies and reagents in accordance with the department's inventory system.
26. Drafting and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and protocols as necessary.
27. Facilitating the logistical coordination of licensed and/or investigational products as required.
28. Executing all system functions essential for the timely reporting of results.
29. Performing additional duties and projects as assigned.
30. Upholding Hackensack Meridian Health organizational competencies and standards of conduct.
Qualifications
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
2. At least 6 years of clinical laboratory experience or related cell therapy manufacturing experience.
3. Operates with a significant degree of independence.
4. Possesses expert knowledge in the field.
5. Capable of managing complex issues and challenges.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
7. Proficient in computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
2. Previous experience in cellular therapy and/or blood banking.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Holds categorical classification or is eligible for American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
1. Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA), Clinical Laboratory Technologist (HEW), or equivalent.
2. Certified Advanced Biotherapies Professional (CABP).
