**Job Summary**

MIT is seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to serve as the Associate Director of the Bates Research and Engineering Center. This is a leadership role that requires a strong background in nuclear science and engineering, as well as excellent management and communication skills.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Oversee the management of ongoing research projects and develop proposals for new initiatives
  • Formulate long-term strategic plans for the laboratory's growth and impact
  • Collaborate with MIT departments, national laboratories, and industrial sponsors
  • Supervise personnel and serve as primary point of contact for the laboratory
  • Cultivate potential users of MIT-Bates space and develop collaborative research proposals
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for optimizing use of the site and personnel
  • Represent MIT-Bates to external stakeholders and act as a conduit to local government
  • Work with the LNS fiscal office on reporting and compliance-related tasks
  • Serve as environment, health and safety (EHS) co-coordinator
  • Work with the LNS HR administrator on personnel matters

**Requirements**

  • 15 years' experience in a related technical field
  • 5 years' supervisory experience
  • Proven leadership experience successfully managing technical research projects
  • Experience with and research interests that align with present and planned MIT-Bates research activities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Self-motivation and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Ph.D. in physics or master's in engineering/engineering management
  • Experience at a national laboratory, university, or related industry
  • Experience interfacing with environment, health, and safety groups
