Job Summary

The University of Arizona is seeking a highly skilled Research Manager IV to lead technical projects and manage optical fabrication and telescope operations. This is a full-time, exempt position that requires a strong background in engineering, project management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage technical projects to scope, schedule, budget, and risk on behalf of the Principal Investigator.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain operational plans, programs, systems, and technical aspects of contracts requiring a high degree of innovation, creativity, and integration.
  • Accountable for strategic and operational direction of a large and complex technical organization within the department.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and/or supervise the activities of designated technical groups.
  • Develop and schedule work plans in accordance with specifications and funding limitations; oversee daily operations and coordinate activities of project expenditures.
  • Maintain ability to work well in a broad matrix organization with many projects in a team environment.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including 5 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering experience with optical fabrication, optics, telescopes, electronics, instrumentation, astronomy, and custom machines.
  • Experience with UA budgeting, accounting principles, and administrative systems.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
