The Department of Steward Observatory is seeking to fill multiple openings for a Research Manager IV (Technical Projects Manager). The selected candidates will oversee initiatives related to the advancement of both space and terrestrial telescopes, focusing on areas such as optics production, telescope control mechanisms, and the development of instrumentation.
  • Project Management: Directs technical projects to align with scope, timeline, budget, and risk management in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.
  • Operational Planning: Formulates, executes, and sustains operational strategies, programs, systems, and technical elements of contracts.
  • Team Coordination: Facilitates, observes, and leads technical teams.
  • Daily Operations: Manages everyday functions and synchronizes project tasks.
  • Collaborative Environment: Works efficiently within a team setting across multiple projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • A minimum of 9 years of relevant professional experience, including 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Proven experience in leading teams, projects, programs, or operational functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in engineering disciplines related to optics, telescopes, electronics, astronomy, and specialized machinery.
  • Familiarity with financial management and accounting principles.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
