About Indiana State Prison:

As part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Indiana State Prison is dedicated to enhancing public safety by offering meaningful and effective pathways for successful re-entry into society. The Indiana State Prison is a maximum-security facility for adult males, situated on a substantial area in Michigan City, Indiana. It is the oldest operational correctional facility within the Department of Correction, housing individuals serving lengthy sentences or those convicted of serious offenses.

Salary Information:

The starting salary for this position is typically $42,900.00, though it may vary based on educational background or relevant work experience.

Daily Responsibilities:

The core responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing guidance to offenders regarding job placements, housing transitions, facility relocations, and other procedural matters.
  • Acting as a liaison among potential employers, judicial systems, community organizations, and governmental bodies to facilitate job development and adjustment upon release.
  • Evaluating each assigned offender's risks and needs using the Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).
  • Collaborating with relevant facility personnel to address re-entry and release challenges.
  • Documenting an offender's temporary absences and progress reports, including case notes and program referrals throughout their incarceration.
  • Working with classification department staff to recommend appropriate classifications for offenders.
  • Conducting orientation sessions for newly admitted offenders.
  • Ensuring adherence to re-entry policies to complete all quality assurance tasks in accordance with established guidelines.

Qualifications for Success:

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field. Note: Each year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required experience.
  • Certification in the Indiana Risk Assessment System must be obtained within 90 days of hire through the Indiana Office of Court Services.
  • Successful completion of all drug screenings is mandatory.
  • Upon hiring, candidates must complete all required training, including the DOC Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position involves supervising incarcerated individuals and necessitates a high degree of judgment and care.
