Junior Law Enforcement Officer

Parkland College is a recognized, accredited community college dedicated to fulfilling the educational needs of District 505, which is the third largest community college district in Illinois. As a Public Safety Officer at Parkland College, you will be instrumental in fostering a secure and safe atmosphere for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Your duties will include enforcing campus regulations, adhering to the laws of the State of Illinois, conducting patrols, responding to emergencies, performing investigations, preparing written reports, and collaborating with various campus departments to enhance safety and community involvement. These tasks must be executed ethically, in alignment with the college's mission, vision, and values.

This role is an On-Campus, Full-Time, 12-Month position governed by the Public Safety Officer's Association, offering an annual salary of $48,953.35.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Upholding order on campus in accordance with college policies, state, and federal laws.
  • Ensuring security for facilities and patrons.
  • Conducting traffic enforcement and routine patrols.
  • Carrying out investigations.
  • Providing emergency assistance as needed.
  • Executing arrests when necessary.
  • Documenting incidents accurately.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with college faculty, staff, and patrons.
  • Keeping accurate records.
  • Offering assistance upon request.
  • Testifying in legal proceedings.
  • Wearing and maintaining the appropriate uniform.
  • Maintaining current certifications.
  • Performing other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • No felony convictions; must successfully pass a thorough background check with fingerprinting.
  • Completion of an on-the-job field training officer program is required.
  • Must pass the written exam provided by the National Testing Network, Inc. (NTN), along with an oral interview, psychological evaluation, physical fitness test, and medical examination. The psychological evaluation, physical fitness test, and medical exam will occur after a conditional job offer has been accepted.

National Testing Network Testing Information:

The Parkland College Police Department offers testing services for the position of Police Officer through the National Testing Network, Inc. To apply and schedule a test, visit the National Testing Network website, select Law Enforcement, and sign up for the Parkland College Department. Upon completing the entry-level exam, all candidate scores are automatically forwarded to the Parkland College Police Department. Candidates who achieve a passing score on the entry-level exam will be placed on the department's eligibility list.
