Position Overview:

We are in search of empathetic, dedicated Peer Specialists to engage with children and their families who have come to the attention of child protective services and have been assessed as safe but at elevated risk of future abuse and neglect. Together We Rise (TWR) aims to collaborate with all family members through a team-oriented approach that is supportive, empowering, and respectful, assisting families in establishing safe and stable parenting practices to encourage long-term behavioral change that ensures children's safety in their homes.

The ideal candidate for the Peer Specialist role will possess relevant lived experience in child welfare, mental health, or substance use, and be in active recovery. The Peer Specialist will collaborate with the team to provide insights gained from navigating various systems to enhance service delivery and recovery outcomes. This role involves guiding caregivers in recognizing the necessity of services, understanding the advantages of active and consistent engagement in the program, and helping them stay aligned with case plan objectives. The unique perspective of someone who has experienced similar challenges is invaluable. The Peer Specialist is straightforward, compassionate, and capable of offering practical strategies while holding clients accountable. Daily interactions with clients will focus on connecting them to resources and fostering meaningful relationships. This position is crucial within the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) as an advocate and support for families, emphasizing their progress. The Peer Specialist's role is to enhance mental wellness by incorporating recovery concepts and principles to bolster community resilience and reduce stigma associated with mental health conditions, addressing cultural beliefs, crisis intervention, and treatment services. This is a field-based role, requiring all services to be delivered in person, with no options for remote or virtual service provision.

Directions for Living is a provider of essential services. All employees must be prepared to deliver critical support and services to those we serve during emergencies, pandemics, or other disaster situations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Relevant lived experience in child welfare, mental health, or substance use treatment and recovery.
