Role Summary:

We are in search of dedicated and empathetic Peer Specialists to collaborate with children and their families who have been identified by the child protective investigation division of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. These families are deemed safe but are at a heightened risk of future child abuse and neglect. Together We Rise (TWR) aims to engage all family members through a collaborative approach that is supportive, empowering, and respectful, assisting them in establishing safe and stable parenting practices that foster long-term behavioral changes to ensure children's safety at home.

The ideal candidate for the Peer Specialist role will possess relevant lived experience in child welfare, mental health, or substance use, and be in active recovery. The Peer Specialist will work alongside the team to provide insights gained from navigating various systems, enhancing the service experience and promoting recovery. They will support caregivers in understanding the necessity of services, the advantages of active and consistent program participation, and help them stay aligned with case plan objectives. The perspective of someone who has experienced similar challenges is invaluable. The Peer Specialist is expected to be direct, honest, and compassionate, offering practical strategies while holding clients accountable. They will engage with clients daily to connect them with resources and foster meaningful relationships. This role is crucial during IDT staffing, serving as an advocate and support for the family, highlighting their progress.

The Peer Specialist's responsibilities also include promoting mental wellness through recovery concepts and principles, supporting community resilience, and reducing stigma associated with mental health diagnoses, which encompasses cultural beliefs, crisis intervention, and treatment services. This is a field-based position, requiring all services to be delivered face-to-face, with no option for remote or virtual service provision.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Relevant lived experience in child welfare, mental health, or substance use treatment and recovery.
