Position: Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in the preparation of financial statements that comply with all relevant regulatory and accounting standards, under the guidance of the controller. An ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking abilities. Reliability and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. This role involves providing and processing financial data for management through thorough research and analysis of accounting information, as well as report generation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and balance general ledger accounts
  • Analyze and summarize extensive data sets
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports
  • Support accounts payable processing
  • Prepare accruals for expenses and payroll
  • Contribute to departmental objectives within the Finance team
  • Understand back-office support and deposit operations
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the direct supervisor
  • Collaborate with other accounting personnel to resolve issues
  • Adhere to all established policies and procedures, including compliance with BSA/CIP and OFAC regulations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations by staying informed about current legislation and advising management on necessary actions
  • Safeguard customer confidentiality by maintaining the security of financial information
  • Enhance professional knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing industry publications, and engaging with professional networks
  • Ensure accuracy and appropriateness of completed work by verifying and validating all data

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to create documents, spreadsheets, and databases using Windows-based software
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with the Banking/Credit Union sector is preferred
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Analytical thinking skills with the ability to assess facts, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and tact in interactions with colleagues and management

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Bank Accounting
