Your Role

As a Substation Protection & Control Engineer, you will have the opportunity to engage in the design of protection and control systems for substations serving electric utilities, spanning voltages from 12kV to 500kV. This dynamic field offers exposure to the integration of renewable energy sources into the electric grid. You will leverage your expertise in digital logic design and both AC and DC circuits to develop comprehensive electrical projects.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will gain valuable experience in:
  • Collaborating with local and national utility clients.
  • Managing projects across various voltage levels, from distribution to transmission.
  • Conducting electrical power calculations.
  • Interfacing with multidisciplinary teams including substation, telecom, and civil structural engineers.
Core Duties Include:
  • Designing relay one-line diagrams.
  • Creating three-line AC schematic designs.
  • Developing DC protection schematic designs.
  • Designing panel layouts and wiring schematics.
  • Preparing bills of materials based on design specifications.
  • Performing quality control checks on wiring designs.
  • Providing support throughout the project lifecycle, from initial scoping to final implementation.
  • Assisting in construction activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Safety Code.
  • Adhering to client standards during the design process.
  • Collaborating with designers to produce necessary project documentation.
Qualifications

Mid-Level: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in substation protection and control design or field testing.

Senior-Level: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with four or more years of relevant experience.

Lead-Level: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with eight or more years of experience in the field.

Preferred Skills:
  • Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in quality control for substation protection and control projects.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools.
  • Master's degree in a related discipline.
  • Field testing and commissioning experience.
